Recipe Highlights

  • How it taste: Strawberry salsa is a mixture of sweet, tangy and a hint of spice. Lime covers the sweet strawberries and there are bits of jalapeños in the salsa as well. The salt and lime brings all the ingredients together to work in harmony so that you are able to experience everything together.
  • Skill level: Extremely easy to make! The strawberries are the most time consuming task to make the salsa and you can adjust the size to your liking. Everything else is dice as well then taste and adjust some flavors to your likings.
  • Process: You’ll remove the stems from the strawberries then slice and dice them. Next, you’ll dice up the red onions then remove the stem and seeds from the jalapeños. Once everything is prepped, you’ll add the lime and salt to taste to finish the strawberry salsa.

Ingredient tips

  • Strawberries: Fresh strawberries only for this recipe! Frozen strawberries contain a ton of water and when strawberries are in season there is no comparison in the flavor differences. Another note, the sweetness of your berries will make or break how good the recipe can be. The sweeter the berries the more their flavor will stand out when serving.
  • Jalapeño: This is the spice factor of the strawberry salsa. They don’t add flavor really, only heat. Which means, you can swap the pepper out for something more spicy like a habanero and it’ll be fine. Or, you can omit them altogether and have a sweet and tangy salsa instead.

Chef’s tips

  • You can slice or dice the strawberries however you’d like. However, I recommend smaller pieces because it’s easier to serve that way a ton of different ways. In the photos of the strawberry salsa you can see the small chunks. This works better for chips or even small crostini if you wanted to serve them that way.
  • The strawberry salsa can be made ahead but I do not recommend it. If you want to make the salsa ahead of time, do not add the salt or the lime. Save those two ingredients to add right before serving. What happens is the salt and the acidity will start to make the fruit and veggies release water. If you add them early, as the strawberry salsa sits it’ll be come watery and you’ll start to lose the concentration of the salt and lime flavors.
  • Soak the red onion is cold water for about an hour before mixing it into the salsa. This takes away the bite of the red onions that can be a bit strong sometimes.

How To Make Strawberry Salsa

  1. Start by dicing up the strawberries, red onion, jalapeño and cilantro.
  2. Next, toss them all together. Then, squeeze a lime over the salsa and sprinkle in some salt.
  3. Now, adjust those flavors to taste. Serve the salsa with chips and enjoy.

Ways to serve the strawberry salsa

There are a ton of options for serving this easy salsa recipe. Here are a few options below:

Storage

This strawberry salsa will keep in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days depending on how ripe the ingredients were when you first made the salsa. I do not recommend freezing the salsa due to the ingredients being fresh.

Note, as the salsa sits the salt and lime juice will continue to draw water from the fruit and veggies. You’ll need to readjust the salt and lime levels as time goes on because the salsa will start to get water after some time. It can start to change within or after the first hour.
