How To Make Tomatillo Red Chili Salsa

Ingredients needed

  • Tomatillos
  • Chile de arbor peppers
  • Guajillo peppes
  • Garlic
  • Lime
  • Salt

Quick tip before starting

The heat is all in the peppers. To adjust the heat up or down add or remove peppers as you go. The sauce is blended so if you aren’t getting enough spice add a few more peppers and blend until you reach the perfect kick.

For those that don’t like any spice you can remove all the peppers but the sauce will be very green like the tomatillos.

Making the tomatillo red chili salsa

  1. First, prep the peppers and the tomatillos.
  2. For the tomatillos, remove the leaf around them and rinse them because they will be sticky.
  3. For the peppers, remove the stem and seeds from the peppers. I highly suggest doing this with a pair of gloves on.
  4. Now, turn on a pot of boiling water then place the tomatillos and peppers in and allow them to boil about 10 minutes. You want the tomatillos to turn a pale green but boil too long and they’ll burst, try to avoid that.
  5. Once everything is softened drain the water. Then, in a blender toss in the garlic along with the softened tomatillos and peppers. Blend everything until smooth.
  6. Remove from the blender, add in the lime juice then salt to taste. Lastly, serve.
