Recipe Highlights

  • How they taste: Hot honey chicken sliders use their own hot honey that’s homemade so you can control the spice. The honey adds a sweet finish along with the crunchy pickled red onions. The chicken tenders used with bee frozen or homemade but more on that below. The mozzarella cheese and parmesan add a creamy and nutty finish which also cools down the spicy portion of the sliders even more.
  • Skill level: If using frozen chicken tenders for the hot honey chicken sliders the recipe is super easy and a matter of throwing the sliders together. If you opt to make the chicken tenders in home then there is more work but it’s not something difficult as long as you follow the directions.
  • Storage: These sliders are super easy to store in the fridge and reheat later. You can reheat them in the air fryer, microwave or the oven with easy.

Ingredient tips

  • Chicken: The chicken is the main part of the recipe. For ease, frozen tenders are the best but for the best flavor I suggest making your own chicken tenders at home using my hot honey chicken tenders recipe.
  • Pickled red onions: I used store bought because it’s a long process making them at home. When it comes to flavor I find the flavor is the same. But, homemade pickled onions shine more in texture. You can also swap the pickled red onions for hamburger pickles as well.
  • Cheese: Sliced mozzarella cheese is used for the actual sliders but grated parmesan is used for the topping. Any cheese can be used in place of the mozzarella. And the grated parmesan can be omitted.

Chef’s tips

  • For the recipe below, I will suggest frozen tenders for ease. For the cooks that really want to take it another level I suggest frying the chicken tenders or baking them using one of these two recipes:
    Hot Honey Chicken Tenders
  • Baked Hot Honey Chicken Tenders
  • There are 12 servings for the recipe. If you know that there will be leftovers. I suggest not adding the cheese to that part and store that portion in the fridge or freezer for later.
  • Because the chicken tenders have to be made before baking the dinner rolls. It’s a harder recipe to make ahead. You can prep ahead but you’ll need to make sure the chicken tenders aren’t frozen when you try to bake the sliders later. You could tent the dinner rolls to try to add more time and prevent them from browning too fast if you assembled the hot honey chicken sliders ahead of time and plan to bake them later.

How To Make Hot Honey Chicken Sliders

  1. Start by prepping the frozen chicken tenders according to the package instructions.
  2. Cut the dinner rolls in half to create a top and bottom half.
  3. Toss the chicken tenders in the hot honey sauce. Layer the bottom half of the dinner rolls with cheese, then top with the chicken tenders. Add the top of the buns on top of the chicken.
  4. Place in the oven and bake until the dinner rolls are browned.
  5. Before serving, remove the top and add the pickled red onions. Now, you’re ready to serve the chicken sliders.

Storage & reheating

Storing the hot honey chicken sliders is super easy. The leftovers can be wrapped in foil or stored in an airtight container for up to 3 to 4 days. For freezing, I suggest removing the cheese and onions if possible and putting fresh cheese and pickled onions when it’s time to reheat.

For reheating, if you want to reheat in the oven, wrap the sliders in foil then bake until reheated. For the last few minutes be sure to unwrap so that the buns and crisp up again. You can also do this in the air fryer, For the microwave, simply reheat unwrapped until warm. Before reheating any way be sure to remove the pickled red onions first then add them bake once the hot honey chicken sliders are hot.
