A sheet pan of oven roasted sausage peppers and onions recipe with Italian seasoning for an easy clean up one dish dinner. Super easy, simply chop up your veggies then place in the oven for it to cook through then serve on your favorite bun or as a hoagie!
Recipe Highlights
- How it taste: Sheet pan sausage peppers and onions taste and smell like the state fair. Italian seasonings make up the herb blend mixed with touches of garlic and the fresh, roasted peppers and onions. The sausages you can play with the Italian sausage is recommended.
- Skill level: Sheet pan recipes are super easy, even for a beginner. You basically are tossing everything in oil, seasoning it, then roasting everything in the oven until it’s done.
- Storage: This part is easy. All these ingredients reheat great. They’ll keep in the fridge couple of day but more on that below in the section for storing.
Ingredient tips
- Sausage: The recommended sausage is Italian. It’ll give the most state fair feel. May I add, another sausage that’s delish and is also popular at state fairs are Polish sausages. Where you get flavorful spices in the Italian sausage, you’ll get a bit more smokey and sweet flavors in the Polish sausage.
- Bell peppers: Red, yellow and green bell peppers are the choice for the sheet pan sausage peppers and onions recipe. Flavors will depend on personal taste but you can play around with this by adding more of one color. Red and yellow are sweeter with the green being earthy. Orange bell peppers exist and they will work just fine if that’s what’s available.
- Onions: Any onions will do but yellow and especially red turn out delicious after roasting. Be sure to slice them somewhat on the thicker side so they make it through the roasting without burning.
How To Make Sheet Pan Sausage Peppers And Onions
- Preheat oven to 400°F
- Slice the bell peppers and onion. Then toss in the olive oil, salt, pepper and italian seasoning
- Line peppers and onions on sheet pan evenly as possible. Place sausages on top whole. Spray or brush them with oil and make sure they are on top of the veggies so they can brown and the skin can crisp up.
- Bake 30 minutes
- Remove and serve.
How To Store
When I have leftovers they keep well in a sealed storage container for at least 3 days in the refrigerator. I personally have never frozen them. But, reheating is great in the microwave, stove top or oven and make them very versatile to add to other dishes like marinara sauce and pasta later on.
