An easy to make omelette recipe using smoked salmon for a protein rich breakfast. Fluffy eggs and salmon pair well together in this healthy recipe that I am sure the delicious flavor is from a combination you never saw coming!
Who doesn’t love a fluffy breakfast omelette? I was always crazy over a meat lover style but this salmon omelette is a nice twist. You can pan fry your salmon but I highly suggest smoked salmon and the easy part is you don’t have to cook it. That makes creating this omelette recipe even faster to make.
Do You Add Milk Or Water To An Omelette?
In this recipe I use heavy cream. It gives added fat and flavor to the omelette. Milk is a great substitute for this but the creaminess to the egg may be slightly different. I would not recommend adding water at all.
Can You Have Salmon For Breakfast
Yes, salmon is a great protein source. It pairs well with eggs depending on how you choose to prepare. Smoked salmon is used in this recipe because it pairs so well.
How To Make A Salmon Omelette
First, beat your eggs and heavy cream in a bowl. You can add a pinch of salt or not but I’d skip it. Due to the salt content in the salmon and creme fraiche adding salt in the eggs can be too much. Yes, I made this mistake the first time making it.
In a frying pan, I used non-stick butter it up and place on a medium/low heat. Heat isn’t your best friend in this recipe. You’ll need the heat to be hot enough to cook the egg but not so hot it burns the outside of the egg before the top portion is done.
Pour in beaten eggs, you can give them a slight scramble to begin. But, not so much the eggs begin to fluff and you can see the bottom of the pan. Note, the omelette doesn’t have to be super smooth across the top the scrambling fluffs it up.
Then, give the pan a swirl to spin uncooked egg around so it can cook and stick to itself. Take spatula and push down sides to release the egg. A great video showing this method by Gordan Ramsey can be found here start at 4:35.
Finally when omelette is almost done layer sliced smoked salmon, capers and creme fraiche. Once egg is cooked flip closed, plate then serve. Then, thank me later.
Helpful Recipe Tips
- Pinch of salt, be very careful with the salt in this recipe in the eggs. The other elements are very salty so adding too much in the eggs won’t taste very good. Bring balance.
- Pre-sliced smoked salmon, in this recipe the salmon was pre-cooked and slice. You are welcome to pan fry the salmon but this method produced the best flavor when testing.
- For a fluffy omelette, the key is your cooking method. I include a video to help with how I prepare my omelette with Gordan Ramsey demonstrating here skip to 4:35.
