Keto crab cakes that are less than 1g net carbs! A crispy, golden crust outside and filled with crab meat and seafood spices. An easy recipe anyone can whip up for dinner in under 30 minutes. An healthy option that’s light and taste great. Have them as your main meal or an appetizer.
Making seafood cakes is my thing! I have made tuna, several salmon and even shrimp cakes but never crab. What was I waiting on? The light texture, flavor and golden touch is nothing like my other cakes. I’ll be making these again soon. Well, not too soon, lump crab meat can be pricey.
Are Crab Cakes Keto
Naturally no they are not. This recipe is modified to fit anyone eating a keto diet. Traditional crab cakes have bread crumbs in them. This is to add crisp to the cakes because the breadcrumbs don’t have to be use to hold the cakes together. In some recipes people use flour as well for binding. I understand why we do this but it isn’t needed. Yet, for that extra crunch in my helpful tips I add measurements on how to use pork rinds in the place of the breadcrumbs.
How To Make Keto Crab Cakes
First, in a mixing bowl add your lump crab meat. You’ll see several varieties in the store. Any will work in this recipe but I used lump crab meat from the crab not just the claw.
Next, add in old bay seasoning. You can use any seafood seasoning in place of this but just note salt levels.
Then, drop mayo into the mix. Zest a lemon and squeeze in juice from the lemon when done zesting. Mix well, next add in one large egg combined.
In a frying pan add a little oil on medium high heat. Unless you are using the air fryer then preheat that.
Using a tablespoon take a scoop out and form cakes. Doing this I was able to form 7 keto crab cakes with this recipe. Fry each side until golden brown. This takes 2-3 minutes each side.
Serve immediately and enjoy. Dip in your favorite sauce or eat by themselves.
Helpful Recipe Tips
- Adding pork rinds, breadcrumbs are used to give an added crunch and to replace toss in 1/4 cup of pork rind panko in place. Some use almond flour but this isn’t needed at all.
- Refrigerate, I made the cakes ahead of time. Then later in the day I uncovered the cakes and fried them that way. But, they can be made right after mixing.
- For leftovers, store in a container or wrap in foil. Store no more than 3-5 days and 5 is pushing it.
