Before keto I never had a smoothie. Not even one! But, when Smoothie King dropped their keto line I was interested. I find myself have plenty of smoothies at this point in life. I never realized how easy they can be to make at home. Not to mention all the variations that you can do with them. Some fruits are keto friendly mainly berries. I am a chocolate fan so I am definitely making one tonight!
Is Strawberry Keto Approved
Yes, and entire cup of strawberries is only 8g net carbs per serving. That’s easily doable. You do not have to give up strawberries on keto at all. Not only those but you can enjoy blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.
Fresh Or Frozen Fruit
Never use fresh fruit in a smoothie! Now, I am not saying don’t buy fresh fruit. You can buy fresh then freeze it yourself or buy already frozen. To get the ice texture that’s required in a smoothie you need very cold ingredients. A fruit that isn’t frozen won’t really give you the texture you’re looking for. Adding ice will help but you don’t need ice when using frozen fruit or in this recipe.
How To Make A Keto Strawberry Smoothie
First, you’ll be done within the next 5 minutes. In a blender add 1 cup of frozen strawberries.
Next, add in your sweetener. In this step you have a few options. Between almond milk, coconut milk or heavy cream any will work but they will produce a different flavor and end product.
Blend smoothie until everything is blended and smooth. Pour into cup and serve immediately.
Helpful Recipe Tips
- For dairy free option, use almond milk or coconut milk and add vanilla
- Use frozen strawberries or freeze the fresh strawberries you already have.
- Heavy cream will create the creamiest smoothie. Almond milk doesn’t bring the flavor or that creamy texture, yet it will lower the calories.
Variations or Mix ins
- Almond butter
- Chocolate (cocoa powder)
- Vanilla extract
Is Strawberry Smoothie Keto
You’ll notice the net carbs are higher than say 3g net carbs. This is due to the addition of fruit. Any fruit dessert even with berries will always have a higher net carb count. I welcome you to half the recipe for a smaller smoothie. You can easily drink the entire smoothie and still be under 20g net carbs for the day.
