A delicious keto lemonade is just a recipe away to still enjoy this spring and summer drink while staying keto. In only 3 ingredients you can have a sugar free lemonade to die for!
Having lemon recipes during the summer months are essential to sticking to your diet. Nothing is more light in flavor, refreshing yet with a tart flavor mixed with a touch of sweetness we all love. Recently, my strawberry lemonade recipe was amazing but I went there first without keeping it classic. Here we have it! An awesome drink for you and your family to love and to drink guilt free!
Can You Have Lemons On Keto
Yes, you can but in moderation. You’d think this sour fruit couldn’t possibly have any sugar in it but it does. A lemon on the larger side could be just 6g net carbs for one. Now, most of us don’t just eat whole lemons for snacks but say you did, now you know. Lemon juice is what we use in keto recipes because the amount needed won’t go over your carbs for the day. We also lend the help of extracts and flavorings in our desserts.
Is Sugar Free Lemonade Bad For You
It isn’t that it’s bad, the problems come from the ingredients. The idea of sugar free is to keep from having a spike in blood sugar and to avoid effects of sugar. Yet, some sweeteners they use cause the same issues or more than sugar itself. In this homemade recipe it’s super simple and you know exactly what you’re sweetening it with.
How To Make Keto Lemonade
First, decide whether you will use fresh squeezed lemons or lemon juice from the bottle. Most people will tell you squeeze fresh lemons. But, for good reason because there is a big difference in taste. Fresh lemons are sweeter than the store bought juice.
Yet, if you’re like me I don’t have all days and I don’t like guessing how many lemons I need. The whole thing 5-6 lemons give you a half a cup or so is debunked. You never know how much lemon juice you’ll end up with.
In a small pot add lemon juice on a medium heat. Add in sweetener and make sure it has melted down. Now, pour into a pitcher. Starting with a cup of water add into the pitcher and begin tasting until you get the taste you are looking for.
Helpful Recipe Tips
- Fresh lemons or lemon juice, it does make a difference in flavor but I use the lemon juice in the store most times. And, I still enjoy the recipe at the end of the day without all the added hassle of hoping I get enough juice from the lemons I have, to avoid having to run back to the store to buy more.
- How much water, more water the less tart and sweet. There’ll be a perfect balance for you but it’s hard to say. I will give a recommendation but making this more than once each time it’ll vary. Start with 1 cup of water. Then, start tasting and adding in 1/2 cup at a time. Note, if lemonade is hot it will diminish some of the sweetness. Basically, it can taste barely sweet hot and too sweet when cold.
Can I Add Alcohol
Yes, there are alcohols that are keto friendly! I have a video and blog post explaining all of this for you! Be sure to get alcohol free of flavors because those normal have sugar. This recipe is great alone but for some nights I think it’s nice to have a kick to your drink. These are great alcohols that you can add that are all not flavored:
- Vodka
- Rum
- Tequila
- Gin
- Champagne
How Do I Sweeten The Keto Lemonade
The best sweeteners I have used for this recipe are:
I highly recommend you avoid a liquid sweetener in a drink recipe. From my experience they never taste very good compared to granulated.

Keto Lemonade
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup lemon juice (see notes for fresh or bottled)
- 3/4 cup granulated sweetener
- 3 cup water (see notes for correct taste)
Instructions
- In a small pot add lemon juice on medium heat. It doesn't need to boil just get hot enough to melt sweetner. Add sweetener and whisk until it has dissolved then remove from heat
- In a pitcher pour in lemon juice and sweetener. Add in 2 cups of water and begin tasting for your liking of how sweet or sour you'd like it to be.
- At this point add 1/2 cup at a time while tasting to avoid watering the lemonade down. If the lemonade is hot while tasting it will appear "less" sweet than what it really is
- You can follow the directions and add the full 3 cups but from my experiences making lemonade sometimes you have to adjust more or less with the water.
