How To Make Crockpot Cheeseburger Soup

Ingredients needed

  • Ground beef
  • Potatoes
  • Onion
  • Broth
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Velveeta cheese
  • Bacon
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard

Quick tip before making the recipe

  • Adding the velveeta cheese into the broth will create some separation as the cheese is melting. You can fix this by mixing with force and everything will melt smoothly together as you see in the photos. You’ll also cause some potatoes to mix in giving you a potato soup like texture with blended potatoes.
  • Adding the bacon during the cooking process or after is your personal choice. Crispy bacon is a perfect topping for this soup but if you add the bacon into the soup during the cooking process the bacon will not be crispy.

Making the crockpot cheeseburger soup recipe

  1. First, you’ll need to brown the ground beef and season with seasoning salt. Salt and pepper can work as well.
  2. Now, after you remove the cooked ground beef from the pan add in the onions and cook until they are softened and translucent.
  3. Next, in the crockpot add the cooked beef and the onion. Then, add in the diced tomatoes and potatoes then cover with the broth.
  4. On high allow the soup to cook for 2 hours or low for 4-5 hours.
  5. When that time is up, cube the velveeta cheese and add it into the crockpot. Allow 30 minutes for the cheese to melt into the broth. The cheese will look separated but stirring will fix that.
  6. During this time cook and chop the bacon.
  7. Lastly, add in ketchup and mustard then taste for seasoning.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can I use frozen hash browns instead?

Yes, just make sure the cubed hash browns are thawed before making the soup.

Can I use another cheese besides velveeta?

Yes you can. Try to avoid pre-shredded cheese and use cheese straight from the block.
