Ingredient tips

  • Beef stew meat: Beef stew meat are the beef tips in the recipe. You can also buy a chuck roast and dice it up yourself. If you want to sub the beef cut for something else, choose a cut with high collagen so that it breaks down and becomes tender. Not all cuts do this. Typically anything with the name roast will or a beef cut like brisket.
  • Gravy mix: This is where the majority of the flavor will come from. Everything else is just a compliment The mix also helps with the thickening of the gravy along with the additional cornstarch added.
  • Vegetables: No need to limit yourself to only onion. You can play with herbs, carrots, celery, potatoes and etc. Note, you may need a bit more cornstarch due to the water of the extra veggies if you start adding a bunch into the crockpot beef tips and gravy.

Prep tip

This step can be skipped if you’re short on time or a beginner, but sear the beef first. This adds an extra layer of flavor to the entire meal that is easily notable in the end result. Salt and pepper then sear them a little on a medium high heat with a little oil. Don’t try to cook them all the way through, just a quick sear for the color and caramelization of the beef.

Serving suggestions

Crockpot beef tips and gravy works best served over a bed of rice, mashed potatoes or even served next to a delicious Greek potato salad. A great choice for bread on the side could be Texas toast or biscuits.

  1. 5 stars
This was so easy and the meat was so tender! This one will definitely be added to our meal rotations. As a note and maybe because everything I used was low sodium, I did have to add salt and I also added a little bit of red pepper flakes.

  2. Well it provides flavor along with thickening. You could swap it by using a combination of cornstarch, beef broth and a beef bouillon cube. Granted I haven’t tested this but those are the things the gravy packet simplifies if you’d like to omit it.
