Honey butter swim biscuits

Recipe Highlights

  • How they taste: These are fluffy biscuits that are buttery with a touch of sweetness from the honey added. A hint of cinnamon is present in the biscuits but the spice is very light in flavor.
  • Skill level: Honey butter swim biscuits are perfect for beginners. Regular biscuits require a much higher skill to pull off but you get all the great flavors with a fraction of the work.
  • Storing: The biscuits are best stored after baking due to the preparation process. You can reheat them in the oven from frozen or allow them to thaw and then heat them up before serving.

Ingredient tips

  • Flour: Use all-purpose flour for this recipe. Any other flour will give you different results.
  • Butter: I personally like salted butter but if you’re salt sensitive, definitely use unsalted butter that way you can control the salt content.
  • Honey: Any honey will work for the recipe. Note, the biscuits will brown slightly faster than my cheddar bay biscuits due to the sugar in the honey.
  • Spices: If you don’t like cinnamon, you can omit it without any changes to the texture of the biscuits. As mentioned, the flavor isn’t strong but honey butter and cinnamon just have a special connection that works very well.

Equipment

  • 8×8 baking dish

Ingredients

  • 2.5 cup all-purpose flour (313g)
  • 4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 8 tablespoon butter (melted)

Honey butter topping

  • 2 tablespoon butter (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 450℉.
  • In a bowl, mix together the flour, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder. Then, add in the buttermilk, honey and stir until everything is combined.
  • Place the baking dish in the oven with the 8 TB of butter and allow to melt. This also preheats the baking dish to help with the crispy edges.
  • Once the butter is melted, remove the dish then add in the biscuits mix. Carefully spread it out in the baking dish then using a knife, score the biscuits into 9 squares 3×3.
  • Place the dish back into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes. The biscuits are done when the tops are golden but you'll have more browning with these due to the honey.
  • When done baking, remove from the oven. Brush the top of the biscuits with the honey butter topping, then allow to cool 10-15 minutes before serving
