Helpful recipe tips
- The oil is optional for the meatballs but the extra fat helps with texture and keeping the chicken meatballs moist while baking.
- You do not have to sear the meatballs before baking but it does add an extra layer.
- I always recommend grating your own cheese but shredded cheese will work in this recipe if you’re short on time.

- 1/2 cup Italian breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoon cooking oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

- 28 ounce crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 2 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt to taste
Topping
- 1.5 cup mozzarella (shredded)
Instructions
- Mix together all the ingredients for the meatballs. Once combined, allow to sit for 15 minutes to let the breadcrumbs do there thing.
- Preheat the oven to 400℉.
- Form the meatballs. Then, in a pan on medium high heat with oil, sear the meatballs on 1-2 sides then remove from pan. Just sear them, they will be raw in the middle. Do not try to cook them all the way.
- Once finished searing the meatballs, add them to the baking dish. In a bowl, mix together the ingredients for the sauce. When tasting for sauce there may be a slight tin flavor from the can but that will bake off in the oven.
- Pour the prepared sauce over the seared meatballs then top with the cheese. Place in the oven uncovered for 20-25 minutes or until the cheese is melted and browning.
