How To Make Whipped Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients needed

Helpful tips before starting the recipe

  • You can not approach this recipe like mashed potatoes because they are different. Russet potatoes have a ton of starch that absorbs liquids. But, you’ll need a lot less liquid with whipped sweet potatoes.
  • For a faster recipe, I suggest peeling the potatoes then boiling them. This way there is no cool down period where you have to wait to be able to handle the sweet potatoes.
  • If you’re a cheese lover, try adding in a nutty cheese like parmesan or gruyere then bake for a bit, you’ll thank me later.

Making whipped sweet potatoes easily

  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil then add in chopped sweet potatoes. If possible, measure out the weight of the sweet potatoes because that can change how much butter or cream you need for the recipe.
  2. Once the sweet potatoes are soft, drain the water then add them to a large bowl.
  3. Next, pour in the butter and heavy cream. Then, grab a hand mixer and beat the sweet potatoes with the butter and cream.
  4. Add in the cinnamon then add salt to taste.
  5. You’re ready to serve.
  6. Note for storing the whipped sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes like to separate from the water inside. So, if you see a water-like liquid just give them a stir and you’ll be fine. With regular mashed potatoes the starches don’t allow this to happen.
