How To Make Mashed Cauliflower-Step by Step photos
- Get a full head of organic cauliflower and slice it up. Then boil until fork tender.
- After done boiling, put cauliflower into food processor or something similar such as a Nutribullet or blender. Food processor would be best.
- Pour in heavy cream and add butter.
- Blend until smooth. Add in seasonings in the food processor or in a separate bowl.
What Does Cauliflower Mashed Potatoes Taste Like?
Given there is a lack of starch they are a bit looser than traditional potatoes. No, they are not runny at all. In the frozen cauliflower mash you will find they add carbs by putting in starch for thickening. That isn’t needed! Homemade cauliflower mash is just as thick as the starch added ones. In my recipe you won’t be able to tell this is cauliflower. Adding toppings and season offset the cauliflower taste. Not to mention, the butter and cream added.
Dairy-Free and Vegan options
- Remove butter and replace with a oil such as olive oil or coconut.
- Sub heavy cream for coconut cream.
- You can even sub them both and double whatever fat you’d like to add. Adding something high fat gives the mash body.
Cauliflower Mash Toppings or Loaded options
- Red wine vinegar onion (recipe below)
- Cheddar cheese
- Uncured Bacon
- Chives
