Crockpot hot chocolate

Sitting down with family and catching up are the best parts of the holidays. Sure, we share food during this time but that isn’t what we remember the most.

Something like crockpot hot chocolate is the perfect get together drink. It’s sweet, creamy, rich and warm during the cold months where you can cuddle up and enjoy friends.

This recipe made in a slow cooker is super easy and requires very little prep work, let me show you step by step to crockpot hot chocolate.

How To Make Crockpot Hot Chocolate

Ingredients needed

  • Unsweetened cocoa
  • Condensed milk
  • Whole milkHeavy cream
  • Vanialla
  • Semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Mini marshmallows or whipped cream for garnish

Important tips before starting the recipe

  • If you’ve never worked with chocolate before here’s my warning, watch the heat. Chocolate is very sensitive to heat so you’ll want to be careful. This isn’t a recipe that doesn’t require stirring.
  • You can have fun with the chocolate chips. Milk chocolate chips were too sweet in my testing. Semi-sweet were perfect for a rich chocolate flavor. But this is your recipe, have fun with it. The chips won’t change the recipe only the flavors in the hot chocolate.

Making the crockpot hot chocolate recipe

  1. First, in a small pot on the stove add in 2 cups of milk. Heat the milk at medium heat, you only want steam, there should be no bubbles or simmering.
  2. Next, add in the cocoa powder and mix until it melts in the warm milk. Once the milk has turned chocolate remove it from the heat.
  3. In the crockpot, add the heated chocolate milk, the other 4 cups of milk, heavy cream, condensed milk, chocolate chips and vanilla.
  4. Place the crockpot on low for 2 hours and be sure to stir occasionally to properly melt the chocolate chips.
  5. When hot chocolate has melted together serve with marshmallows, top with whipped cream or both. While serving to keep it hot simply place it on the warm setting and stir occasionally.
