How To Make Crockpot French Toast Casserole
Ingredients needed
- Loaf of brioche bread (can easily be store-bought)
- Egg
- Milk
- Heavy cream
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- All-purpose flour
- Cinnamon
- Butter
- Vanilla extract
Tips, where it can go wrong
- I do not suggest cooking this recipe on high. It comes out better with a slow cook so that the heat makes it all the way to the center of the casserole.
- If you’re using a loaf of bread I suggest leaving it out for a few hours or the day so that the bread become dry and stale in order to soak up the custard.
Making the French toast casserole in the crockpot
- First, slice up the loaf of bread into 1-2 inch chunks. In a bowl, mix together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar and vanilla.
- Add the bread to this mix and carefully fold everything in so it’s all coated. Do not over do this because you can basically turn your bread into mush. You want to keep the pieces intact.
- Cover the bowl and allow to sit for at least 4 hours but up to 12 hours for the bread to soak up the custard. Also, mix together the topping. The topping will be very crumbly but that’s what you want. Place it in the refrigerator as well with the bread.
- When read to cook, pour everything in the bowl into the crockpot. Then, top the bread with the crumbled topping. Place the crockpot on low for 8 hours and allow to slowly cook.
- Before serving, remove the lid for about 10 minutes so that the sugary topping can dry out crisp up some. Serve and enjoy.
