How To Make Crescent Roll Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients needed

  • Crescent roll dough sheet
  • Dark brown sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Butter
  • Cream cheese
  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla

Tips, where it could go wrong

  • You do not want your butter room temperature. You want the butter softened. The butter should easily spread across the dough. If it’s simply room temperature or cold, it’ll tear the dough or stick to it and not spread properly. A tip, heat up a bowl of water in the microwave for 5 minutes or so to produce steam. Then, remove the water and add the stick of butter for 10 minutes. It shouldn’t melt but will come out super soft.
  • Make sure to press the cinnamon rolls together like you see in the photos and to roll them tightly as possible. If you don’t roll them tightly, pressing them together can still save the cinnamon rolls.
  • A tip for rolling is to lay out a film of plastic wrap and carefully lay the dough across. Then, roll the dough and it’ll release easily. I haven’t tried with parchment paper but I don’t recommend it because it doesn’t have the same “give” as plastic for rolling.

Making the crescent roll cinnamon roll recipe

  1. First, make sure everything is prepped and ready. Then, preheat the oven to 375F.
  2. Grab a large piece of plastic wrap then lay it out on the counter, the plastic must be larger than the dough. Carefully roll out the crescent roll dough sheet by hand and lay it out across the plastic wrap, flat. Spread the butter across the dough leaving 1/2″ of space from the edges.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Then sprinkle that mixture across the butter on top of the dough sheet. Grab the edge of plastic at one of the shorter ends and begin to roll the cinnamon rolls. Tightly as possible, but avoid tearing the dough. Once rolled, cut off 1/2″ from each end revealing the cinnamon mixture.
  4. Using a wet knife, slice through the dough to cut the cinnamon rolls. If the knife starts to stick to the dough, rub some more water across it. Aim for 1.5 to 2″ slices. Once all the slices are made, grab your baking dish.
  5. Arrange the cinnamon rolls in a way that they are all touching in a baking dish. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden. While they are baking, whip together the icing.
  6. Remove the crescent roll cinnamon rolls from the oven and spread the frosting across the top while they are still hot. Allow them to cool then serve and enjoy!
