Important tip to cook pasta sauce and pasta at the same time

To cook this recipe in 30 minutes you have to have everything prepped. Before you start making the pasta prep all the ingredients and put a pot of water on the stove for the pasta.

Pasta on average takes about 10 minutes to cook but follow the directions on the box. When you start cooking the sauce turn on the heat for the noodles.

Once the water is boiling add the noodles. This way the noodles and sauce are cooking together. Now, you can add the noodles when they are finished cooking because the sauce will be done first.

Making the chicken sausage pasta recipe

  1. To start, in a large pot or dutch oven on medium high heat add a little oil then slice and brown chicken sausage. Remove the seared sausage from the pot.
  2. Now, add in diced onion and a little oil. Lower the heat if the pot is getting too hot. After onions are translucent add in minced garlic and diced tomatoes. Season everything lightly with salt and black pepper.
  3. After cooking those ingredients about 3 minutes add in the tomato paste and mix into the ingredients cooking the paste about 30 seconds before moving to the next step. Toss in the chopped herbs (basil & parsley) and seared sausage then stir into the other ingredients.
  4. Next, pour in the marinara sauce, balsamic vinegar and broth. Bring this to a boil then simmer down for 10 minutes uncovered to allow the sauce to thicken.
  5. Then, after 10 minutes remove the sauce from the heat. The noodles should be done at this time if you followed my tip, if not cook them now. Once noodles are finished drain them.
  6. Before adding the noodles into the sauce mix the heavy cream into the pasta sauce. Now, add in the noodles.
  7. Serve with fresh grated parmesan and chopped parsley.

Storage & reheating leftovers

Pasta tends to absorb the sauce. When reheating the chicken sausage pasta may seem drier. You can add a little marinara sauce or eat as is. The flavor won’t change. This recipe should keep in the fridge about 3-4 days.

I would not recommend freezing this recipe due to the texture change but you can freeze it. Understand, there may be some separation when thawed but the flavor will remain the same.
