Helpful tips before starting the recipe

  • The crispy bread bits add a nice touch to the casserole. But, you can skip them. Some people like to use sourdough for breadcrumbs but for this recipe I suggest you do not. This will take away from the natural flavors that come in the sandwich.
  • Make the Big Mac sauce a day ahead. The longer sauces and dressings sit they tend to taste better. After sitting for 24 hours the Big Mac sauce flavors really shine.

Making the Big Mac casserole recipe

  1. First, mix all the ingredients together for the sauce then cover it and place in the refrigerator. Dice the onion and potatoes. Keep the skin but wash the potatoes first before dicing.
  2. Next, in a pan on medium high heat add a little oil then brown the ground beef. Season with salt and pepper. After the ground beef is cooked remove from pan and add in the onion and diced potatoes.
  3. Then, season lightly and cook enough for the onions to soften and the potatoes to have some golden sear marks on them. They will not cook all the way through on the stove top so don’t try.
  4. After those are done add the cooked ground beef, onion and potatoes into a 8×8 baking dish. Cut up cubes of velveeta cheese then mix it in with the contents in the casserole dish.
  5. Next, add the prepped breadcrumbs across the top. Place in the preheated oven for 25 minutes to make the bread golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool a bit.
  6. Lastly, top the casserole dish with shredded lettuce, pickles and the sauce you made earlier, serve.
