How To Make Hamburger Hash Brown Casserole
Ingredients needed
- Ground beef
- Frozen shredded hash brown
- Cream of chicken
- Cheddar cheese
- Onion
- Sour cream
- Salt & pepper

Making the hamburger hash brown casserole recipe
- First, allow the shredded hash browns to thaw completely. This is a very important step. Preheat oven to 350F.
- While the hash browns are thawing cook the ground beef in a skillet. Cook all the way through until all the meat is brown. Remove from pan once finished then cook the diced onions in the same pan until they are fragrant and translucent.
- On the side, mix a bowl of the cream of chicken and sour cream. Then, shred or cube a block of 8oz sharp cheddar cheese. You can use pre-shredded but grating your own will turn out better.
- Before adding the shredded hash browns be sure to drain and squeeze out any excess water.
- Now, mix the thawed hash browns, cooked hamburger and onions with then cream of chicken and sour cream mix. I added suggested measurements for the salt and pepper. It’s best to salt to taste but if I can save you from putting raw hash browns in your mouth I’ll help all I can.
- Spread everything out evenly in a 9×13 baking dish. Then, top with the shredded cheese.
- Bake in a preheated oven for 45 minutes. Allow to cool a bit before serving.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Should I thaw hash browns for casserole?
Yes you should. If you do not they just won’t cook in time and properly inside of your oven. Another step is to make sure you drain the excess water from the hash browns. If using cubed you want to avoid squeezing and smashing them but do the best you can.
Why is my hash brown casserole soggy?
Excess water. This is why in the step above I saw squeeze and drain. Your hash brown casserole should come out creamy not soggy.
