Crockpot steak bites

Seared steak bites is something I love to make when having company over. Any bites are perfect really whether it be salmon, steak or chicken.

These crockpot steak bites are perfect because they are easy to make and fun to share with people. Even more, you can make them for dinner and serve them over rice or mashed potatoes.

Use the delicious gravy to serve with your side dishes and it keeps the steak bites juicy throughout the cook.

You can have fun with the steak you chose but sirloin steak works great in this recipe. Let me show you how to do it!

How To Make Crockpot Steak Bites

Ingredients needed for the recipe

  • Sirloin steak
  • Onion
  • Au jus gravy mix
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Beef broth
  • Garlic powder
  • Butter

Important tips before starting

  • You do not have to sear the steak before adding in the crockpot. This extra step is simply for added flavor due to caramelizing the meat but the crockpot steak bites are still great when skipping this step. Less dishes!
  • Adding butter at the end has worked for a ton of recipes and with my culinary experience it’s served me well time and time again. I suggest waiting to add butter right at the end of the cook and this preserves that butter flavor that tends to get lost in the cooking process.

Making the crockpot steak bites

  1. First, remove the steak from the package and slice the steak into bites or cubes. Season the steak bites with salt and black pepper. I find coarse pepper works best but use what you have.
  2. Next in a pan on high heat with a little oil, sear one or two sides of the steak bites. No need to stress searing all the sides that’s necessary work.
  3. Place the seared steak bites in the crockpot. Measure out the beef broth and in the measuring cup mix in the au jus gravy mix with garlic powder. Pour in with the steak.
  4. Then, add in Worcestershire sauce and sliced onions. Cook on high for 2-3 hours. This recipe works fine cooking the bites to well done due to the liquid. But, if you want medium or less simply monitor them bites but you’ll still need least 2 hours.
  5. When steak is done, add in butter and stir it into the dish. Lastly, taste for salt before serving but you should be fine if you seasoned while preparing the ingredients.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Can you put steak in slow cooker raw?

Yes, as mentioned above you don’t have to sear the steak. The steak will cook evenly when placed in the slow cooker/crockpot and the liquid keeps it juicy.

How long does steak pieces take in a slow cooker?

This crockpot steak bites recipe will take about 2-3 hours on high and possibly 6 on low. This isn’t the type of recipe that you can put on low and go to sleep or work like a pot roast. Sirloin tip roast would be perfect for that type of recipe.
