The secret to their taste lies in the slow cooking process, allowing the carrots to slowly caramelize enhancing their natural sweetness. And the recipe only takes 5 minutes to prepare then the crockpot does the rest.
They are flavorful and simple, let me show you step-by-step in preparing crockpot carrots.
How To Make Crockpot Carrots
Ingredients needed
- Baby carrots
- Granulated sugar
- Brown sugar
- Cornstarch
- Cinnamon
- Butter
Tips to alter the recipe
- The cornstarch thickens the sauce. But, when you first start be sure to come back that first hour and stir the carrots a few times. What can happen is the cornstarch settles at the bottom and then begins to clump because it isn’t being stirred. After the first hour and 2 or 3 stirs you’re good to go.
- You can remove the cornstarch but the sauce will be very thin. I also recommend not adding the butter until the last hour or right before serving.
Making the carrots in the crockpot
- To start the crockpot carrots add the carrots into the crockpot and turn the crockpot on high or low.
- Then in a bowl add the sugars, cinnamon and cornstarch. Add cold water and mix everything together then pour on top of the carrots. Allow the carrots to cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6. Be sure to stir the carrots at least twice that first hour to avoid settling of the cornstarch.
- When the carrots are done, fold in the butter, then allow them to cool a bit and salt to taste.
