First, preheat the oven to 400F then brown the hamburger meat in a skillet on the stove top. Do not season it with salt and pepper. When the ground beef is cooked remove it from the pan.
Next, add in the diced onion and Rotel tomatoes. Cook until fragrant and onions are soft then add back in the ground beef.
Then, add in the taco seasonings plus 1 cup of water. Cook the taco mix until the seasonings has thickened then add in the cream cheese. Watch the heat after adding in the cream cheese. You may be able to use the heat leftover and turn the stove off completely to melt the cream cheese.
Now, if you aren't using an oven safe pan transfer the taco mix to a baking dish. Top with cheese then place in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until cheese is melted.
While the walking taco casserole is baking prep the fresh ingredients.
Immediately when you remove the casserole from the oven top it with the ingredients and allow it to cool. While cooling the heat will radiate and the top ingredients should not be very cold minus the lettuce.
Lastly, after cooling serve.
