In a large pot water, add sweet potatoes then bring to a boil. You'll want to boil the potatoes until you can pierce them with a knife and you can feel the resistance that the potatoes are not quite done. This is the perfect point to remove them for the water so that you can cut and smash them with ease.
Next, allow them to cool so that you can easily handle them for cutting.
Preheat the oven to 400F.
Once cool, cut into slices about two inches thick. Then, place them on the baking baking sheet you are going to use. Now, with the back of a plate or small bowl add or spray oil for easy release. Gently on each potato press then down slightly and go to each sweet potato and repeat. If the bowl or plate starts to stick reapply the oil.
Now, season the potatoes with salt, sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon across the top. This will have to be to taste because it's impossible to know exact measurements do to many factors.
Place the smashed sweet potatoes back in the oven for 15-20 minutes. Remove them and allow to cool a bit before serving.
