Dr Pepper baked beans are super easy to make at home and even better than the store bought. Make this baked bean recipe as a simple dinner side dish or potluck.
First, dice an onion and preheat the oven to 350F. Then, grab a pot and turn the heat to medium high. Add a little oil to the pot and sauté the diced onion.
Next, add salt, garlic powder and black pepper to the onions. Then, turn the heat off. You only needed to cook the onions slightly before starting the recipe.
Now, add in both cans of baked beans.
Next, add in molasses, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, barbecue sauce and pour in the Dr pepper soda.
Give everything a good mix. Then, put the lid on the pot and bake for 1.5 hours. Note, you can remove from oven at 1 hour but in my testing that extra hour helped the sauce thicken a bit more.
Lastly, allow to cool a bit. Then taste for salt and before serving add in the chopped bacon.
Note: cook the bacon in the oven before you bake the beans or cook the bacon on the stove top while the beans are baking
