Equipment

  • Crockpot

Ingredients

  • 5 medium sweet potatoes, peeled & chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  • First, peel and chop up the sweet potatoes then place them in the crockpot.
  • Add the seasoning of salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, granulated sugar and vanilla extract over the chopped sweet potatoes.
  • In a mixing cup, mix the water and cornstarch together then pour it in the crockpot.
  • Turn the crockpot on high and cook for 3 hours stirring more or less each hour. This isn't a recipe you should place on low and not comeback because you do need to turn the potatoes in the crockpot for the recipe to cook evenly.
  • Once the candied yams are soft stir in bits of butter then taste for salt. Be careful because the yams will be extremely hot.
