Ingredients

  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 21 ounce cherry pie filling

Egg wash

  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream or milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400℉.
  • Take the puff pastries and cut the sheets into 4's. In a small bowl, mix together the egg and heavy cream, set aside.
  • Now, with the canned cherries, take a spoon full of cherries and place in the middle on one puff pastry sheet. Take a finger, dip it into the egg wash and spread a thin layer around the edges. Fold the puff pastry over and seal it. Then, crimp the edges with a knife.
  • Quick tip, try to get as many cherries as possible from the canned filling. Some brands give you more filling than actual cherries. After 1 or 2 turnovers, you'll have a feel about how much you need to fill the turnovers correctly and seal them.
  • Once all are sealed, brush the outside of the pastry with the egg wash. Then, place on a lined sheet pan and bake for 15-20 or when the outside is golden.
  • Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before handling. Spread the icing, then enjoy.
