Before starting, prep all the ingredients because cooking on the stove top will move fast. Now, use a dutch oven or an oven safe pot on medium heat add a little oil. Then, toss in and cook the ground beef.
Now, when the ground beef is almost done toss in diced onion and diced green bell pepper. Season everything lightly with salt and black pepper. Cook the onions until fragrant and translucent. If the mix looks dry be sure to add a little more oil since you are using lean beef.
Next, lower the heat to medium and add in the cans of baked beans. Then, add in the remaining ingredients. Stir everything together.
Place in preheated oven for an hour. Remove from oven and give everything a stir. Allow to cool before serving.
Quick tip, the longer you leave the beans in the oven the thicker they get. If an hour isn't long enough due to oven temperature you can always add more time to adjust for the differences in ovens.
