Equipment

  • non-stick frying pan

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon finely ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses
  • 1/4 cup granulated or powdered sweetener
  • 1 pound ground beef (turkey, chicken or pork is fine as well)

Instructions

  • I suggest seasoning your ground meat with salt and pepper beforehand. You don't have to but it does make a difference in flavor. 1/2 tsp of salt and pepper is fine.
  • In a sauce pan on medium heat add olive oil then add in tomato paste. Cook out the paste for a few seconds then pour in tomato sauce.
  • Monitor heat and make sure it isn't bubbling too much. If it is remove from heat or lower heat quickly. A little stock/broth will help as well.
  • Add in your seasonings along with sweeteners. Mix well
  • Toss in ground beef, reduce to simmer and cook until done. As you see in the video it's easy to tell when it's done. Push a little pass done on simmer for about 5-10 minutes to really soak in flavors.

Notes

Helpful Recipe Tips

  • Season ground beef prior to cooking. Doing this seasons the meat because if you add it to the sauce only the sauce is seasoned.
  • Non-stick pan is ideal but adding some beef bone broth or any stock will add more flavor and keep moisture as well. Just don't thin your sauce out too much with it. If you run into trouble simply add in more tomato paste.
  • Granulated or powdered sweetener only! Do not sub liquid sweetener here. Unless you're using allulose or monk fruit you're asking for a serious aftertaste.
